The Luminosity Function of Low-redshift Abell Galaxy Clusters
We present the results from a survey of 57 low-redshift Abell galaxy clusters to study the radial dependence of the luminosity function (LF). The dynamical radius of each cluster, r200, was estimated from the photometric measurement of cluster richness, Bgc. The shape of the LFs are found to correlate with radius such that the faint-end slope, α, is generally steeper on the cluster outskirts. T...
متن کاملDynamics of the X - ray clusters Abell 222 , Abell 223 and Abell 520 ⋆
We present the results of a dynamical analysis of three rich, X-ray luminous galaxy clusters, Abell 222, Abell 223 and Abell 520, that are at intermediate redshifts. Our study is based on radial velocities for 71 cluster members, respectively 30 for A 222, 20 for A 223 and 21 for A 520, measured from spectra obtained at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, the European Southern Observatory, and ...
متن کاملSupernova rates in Abell galaxy clusters and implications for metallicity
Supernovae (SNe) play a critical role in the metal enrichment of the intracluster medium (ICM) in galaxy clusters. Not only are SNe the main source for metals, but they may also supply the energy to eject enriched gas from galaxies by winds. However, measurements of SN rates in galaxy clusters have not been published to date. We have initiated a program to find SNe in 163 medium-redshift (0.06 ...
متن کاملDiffuse Optical Light in Galaxy Clusters I: Abell 3888
We are undertaking a program to measure the characteristics of the intracluster light (total flux, profile, color, and substructure) in a sample of 10 galaxy clusters with a range of cluster mass, morphology, and redshift. We present here the methods and results for the first cluster in that sample, A3888. We have identified an intracluster light (ICL) component in A3888 in V and r that contain...
